The experience of evaluation in our telephone Triage line presents that 49% of the population has a pre-intention of going to an emergency room.
After evaluating the signs and symptoms, the data shows a redirection of 43% of the patients to visit their doctor in a 4 to 48-hour period, while 17% to selfcare.
That represents a reduction of 29% in emergency room visits.
The telephone Triage Unit, called Nurse Advice Line (NAL), is a health, education and orientation service accredited by Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) as a Health Call Center since 2001. It ncludes a nurse evaluation which offers recommendations of care, which can be directed as selfcare, a visit to the primary care physician in a period of 4, 24 or 48 hours, redirecting to poison control or an emergency room and, in the presence of emergent symptoms, a 911 activation.
Consists of the same Triage structure with the distinction of being complemented with a medical consultation if predetermined signs and symptoms, following the American Telemedicine Association standards, are present. Our primary doctors are licensed to practice in Puerto Rico. If a patient needs a prescription the doctor can send it directly to the preferred pharmacy.
